The FLERA Board of Directors is pleased to open the nomination period for FLERA’s two keystone awards. The nomination period will close on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. The awards will be presented on Thursday, August 1st during the luncheon at the Annual Conference at the Embassy Suites St. Augustine Beach Oceanfront Resort in St. Johns County
There are two categories of awards:
Rick Wilkins Environmental Leadership Award: Established in honor of Rick Wilkins, this award is open to the environmental professional who best demonstrates exemplary leadership, integrity and dedication to service. Rick Wilkins was a long time employee of the Hillsborough Environmental Protection Commission for over 15 years. He was a passionate advocate for FLERA throughout his career and in 1987 he was hired by Governor Bob Martinez as the Waste Division Director at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). While at FDEP, he continued to promote and advocate for FLERA and was instrumental in FDEP's participation in the organization. Rick later became Director of the local environmental program in Broward County where he remained a champion of FLERA until his passing.
Elected Official’s Environmental Leadership Award: This award is open to elected officials at municipal, county, state, or federal levels who, over the course of his or her term in service, has displayed leadership in effecting environmental policy.
Nominees for both categories will be reviewed by the FLERA Board of Directors, who will select the recipients prior to the Annual Conference. Nominees do not need to be members of FLERA for consideration.
