FLERA began in the late 1960s as a voluntary association of county and municipal environmental programs to share information about mutual resource concerns and solutions. Today, FLERA is a diverse organization of large and small agencies representing much of Florida’s territory. Our members provide services in air and water monitoring, environmental protection, growth management, land management, environmental health, and public works to nearly 90% of Florida’s population. FLERA agencies employ more than 1500 environmental professionals and provide annual operating budgets in excess of $200 million.

Our Mission
FLERA aims to strengthen the role of these local environmental programs and to encourage the formation of new programs. FLERA provides for enhanced communication of information regarding local environmental protection efforts and promotes delegation of state and federal operations to local programs.

FLERA is an approved exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
